The present invention relates to a composition comprising an extract of Spirodela polyrhiza containing an orientin compound as an active ingredient. The extract can inhibit AhR or CYP1A1 gene expression increased by benzopyrene, and can exhibit an excellent effect on skin protection by alleviating skin cell damage and alleviating skin irritation due to heavy metals, and thus can be used as a cosmetic composition or a pharmaceutical composition for skin damage alleviation or skin protection.
