The present invention relates to a cosmetic composition for the improvement of skin damage or skin-protection containing an extract of Carpinus tschonoskii. The Carpinus tschonoskii extract has an antipollution function of adsorbing one or more environmentally harmful factors selected from the group consisting of yellow sand, fine dust, vehicle exhaust gas and heavy metals, and thus can be effectively used to improve, maintain and protect the skin from various environmental stresses by increasing the cell survival rate by inhibiting the death of skin cells, generated by the environmentally harmful factors.
