The present invention relates to a vehicle black box and a method of switching determination criteria for an impact event using the same. The present invention comprises: a photographing unit which photographs an image outside a vehicle; a sensor unit which senses vehicle movement due to an external impact or driving environment while video is being captured; and a control unit which determines whether an impact event is generated based on the sensing data, stores the image photographed by the photographing unit in a memory as an image file when the impact event occurs, has a plurality of modes having different criteria for determining an impact event, and automatically switches from a predetermined mode to another mode depending on a change in the amount of sensing data for a predetermined time to switch the criteria of the impact event. By switching the mode for determining the impact event according to whether or not the vehicle enters a road surface such as an unpaved road, it is possible to minimize unnecessary impact event determination and minimize the storage of unnecessary image files in the memory.
