A system and method for calibrating a dynamic digital imaging system for detection of defects in a moving product stream. The system has an elevated platform on the conveyor unit for receiving a reference color tile. The elevated platform enables the passage of products to be inspected beneath the surface of the conveyor unit, so that calibration and recalibration processes during image capture can be continuously achieved without interruption of the product stream.
