Use of intensity variations of light patterns for depth mapping of objects in a volume

To determine the depth of an object in the volume, the structured light is projected onto the volume. The structured light includes a pattern in which the intensity of light changes. The sensor senses light from the volume and uses the change in intensity of the sensed light to correlate the pattern with the sensed light. Based on the correlation, the depth of the object in the volume is determined.
