The present invention relates to an anti-inflammatory composition or a composition for preventing or treating asthma and a food composition containing an extract of Codonopsis lanceolata or a fraction thereof. The extract of Codonopsis lanceolata or the fraction thereof has no toxicity, inhibits the production of NO, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α, which are inflammatory factors, thereby being usefully used for anti-inflammation or preventing or treating asthma.
