Disclosed are a signal detection method for a two-dimensional bit patterned medium having staggered arrangement, and a recording medium and apparatus for conducting the same. The signal detection method for a two-dimensional bit patterned medium having staggered arrangement comprises: a down-track detection step of detecting a signal in a horizontal direction (x) path along a down-track; a first cross-track detection step of detecting a signal in a first vertical direction (z_1) path in order to bypass a plurality of pixels arranged in the same line along a cross-track at right angles to the down-track, and a plurality of pixels arranged in a cross state towards the horizontal direction (x) path with respect to the cross-track; and a second cross-track detection step of detecting a signal in a second vertical direction (z_2) path in order to bypass a plurality of pixels arranged in the same line along the cross-track, and a plurality of pixels arranged in a cross state towards an opposite path to the horizontal direction (x) path with respect to the cross-track. Therefore, the signal detection method for a two-dimensional bit patterned medium having staggered arrangement can detect signals through three paths including a horizontal direction (x) path, a first vertical direction (z_1) path for bypassing pixels arranged in a cross state along a vertical direction (z), and a second vertical direction (z_2) path.
