The purpose of the present invention is to provide an apparatus for disassembling waste batteries, which effectively separates outer cases and polymer cells within the outer cases by safely disassembling discarded can-type batteries, and a method of disassembling waste batteries using the same. The apparatus of the present invention includes a transfer part, a cutting part, and a discharge part. The transfer part includes a conveyor belt driven by a motor provided at one side, has waste batteries seated on the conveyor belt to be separated from one another at predetermined intervals, and moves the waste batteries to one side. The cutting part is disposed at one side of the transfer part and includes: an upper frame including a push bar which pressurizes one side of the waste batteries transferred from the transfer part to transfer the waste batteries to a cutting position, a gripper which holds both end surfaces of the waste batteries to be able to transfer the waste batteries in a vertical or horizontal direction, a plurality of cutting units which are descended to separate the outer cases of the waste batteries by cutting the both end surfaces of outer portions of the waste batteries when the waste batteries held by the gripper and transferred reach a position directly under the cutting units, direction converting units which are disposed between the plurality of cutting units to convert a proceeding direction of the waste batteries, and a push unit which transfers the polymer cells exposed by separation of the outer cases to one side; and a lower frame disposed at a lower side of the upper frame and having an inclined plate disposed to be inclined toward the center to collect the outer cases separated and dropped by the cutting units. The discharge part includes a plurality of discharge conveyors which are provided such that one ends of the plurality of discharge conveyors are disposed at a lower side of the cutting part, and the other ends of the plurality of discharge conveyors are ascended and inclined to transfer outer cases or polymer cells in one direction when the outer cases or polymer cells separated from the cutting part are seated on the plurality of discharge conveyors.
