Translational multifocal contact lenses are described. The lens includes a lower eyelid contact surface, and optionally a lower eyelid support structure. More specifically, translational multifocal contact lenses are described whereby the lower eyelid contact surface is characterized by a plurality of geometric deformation and blend zones, and a function-based technique, uniform axial thickness technique, uniform radial thickness technique, and minimal energy surface.
