UE IMPROVED COVERAGE ESTIMATION OF WIRELESS CELLULAR NETWORKS BY USER EQUIPMENT UE IDLE MODE MEASUREMENTS

In general, the present invention provides an apparatus, system, and method for improving coverage estimation of a wireless cellular network through user equipment (UE) idle mode measurement and reporting. The UE may include a signal measurement module for measuring a reference signal received power (RSRP) of the serving cell of the UE, where the UE is in idle mode, and determining whether the RSRP is below a threshold. The UE may also include a cell search and selection module for searching for the neighbor cell in response to determining that the RSRP is lower than the threshold, and for camping on the neighbor cell if the search is successful. The UE may further include a data logging module for logging information related to the neighbor cell when the neighbor cell search is successful and logging information related to the serving cell when the neighbor cell search fails.
