The invention provides a rail vehicle (1), which comprises the following components: at a first level (10), a lower passenger compartment (6) comprising a lower floor (44); at a second level (12) which offset in height relative to said first level (10) comprises a first gate (22) accessible from a first side (26) of the rail vehicle, a second gate (24) accessible from a second side (28) of the rail vehicle opposite the first side (26), a first fixed access platform (28) fixed and situated opposite the first gate (22), and an access platform (52) which is vertically movable relative to the lower floor (44) and is interposed between the second gate (24) and the first fixed access platform (48). Rail vehicle (1) comprises a ramp (32) extending between the first fixed access platform (48) and the lower floor (44), allowing a wheelchair user to access the lower passenger compartment (6).
