Ultrasonic imaging system comprises a controller configured to determine an amount of N from a plurality of image planes for scanning over an area of interest, obtaining echo information corresponding to each of the image planes in a plurality of image planes, generating image information for each of the image planes based on the obtained echo information, storing the image information corresponding to each of the image planes in the system storage device, selecting the image plane from the plurality of image planes, and displaying an ultrasound image formed based on the image information for the selected image plane, without displaying images corresponding to the other one or more obtained, but not selected to display image planes from a plurality of image planes.
