FIELD: navigation.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the navigation methods and can be used to increase the moving along known paths vehicles (V) location determining accuracy. Vehicles positioning method consists in the fact that prior to the V movement based on the cartographic information the V movement known path is divided into sections, approximated with given accuracy by the orthodromic sections, on which there is a functional connection between the geocentric coordinates, enabling to express two coordinates through the third coordinate. During the vehicle movement along the known path, measured by the navigation system the vehicle current geocentric coordinates are projected onto the vehicle movement true orthodromic path. At that, the projection point coordinates are determined with due allowance for connection between the geocentric coordinates on orthodromy and the irrational equation solution relative to one of the coordinates, obtained from the condition of the orthodromic section between the point with the vehicle measured coordinates and the projection point on the true orthodromic path of its movement minimum length, which coordinates are taken as the vehicle true current geocentric coordinates.;EFFECT: technical result is increase in the vehicle current coordinates determining accuracy due to exclusion of measurement errors, leading to deviation from the vehicle movement true path.;1 cl, 1 dwg
