A circuit arrangement (1) for avoiding potential-induced degradation of a solar module (7), in particular as part of a string, has two input terminals (2a, 2b) for electrical connection to the solar module (7) and two output terminals (3a, 3b) for electrical connection with other solar modules (7) of the string or with an inverter (11). Four switches (4a to 4d) each switchably connecting one of the input terminals (2a, 2b) to one of the output terminals (3a, 3b), and a controller (5) for driving the four switches (4a to 4d) and receiving one Control signal (6) are arranged to connect the input terminals (2a, 2b) to the output terminals (3a, 3b) by driving the four switches (4a to 4d) such that a voltage applied to the input terminals (2a, 2b) in FIG a first polarity is applied to the output terminals (3a, 3b) when a first signal is received as the control signal (6) and the voltage applied to the input terminals (2a, 2b) in a second polarity inverse to the first polarity at the output terminals (3a, 3b) is present when a second, different from the first signal signal is received as a control signal (6).
