A device (10) for performing a high voltage short circuit diagnosis (HV short circuit diagnosis) and an impedance analysis for a vehicle (16), the device (10) comprising: a control unit (12) operably coupled to a HV power network (14) in a vehicle (16), the control unit (12) being configured to: activate any number of switches (20a-20n) during a precharge operation to power the HV power network (14); a first voltage (V batt ) associated with a battery (18) and a first current (I net ) that varies based on the HV power network (14) during the precharge operation; perform the short circuit diagnosis on the basis of the first voltage (V batt ) and the first current (I net ) during the precharge operation; determine a difference between the first voltage (V batt ) and a precharge voltage (V net , V c ) across one of a capacitor (24) and the HV power network (14); measure a second current (I net ) based on at least the difference; and perform the impedance analysis for the vehicle (16) based on the second current (I net ).
