An ink fountain for a printing press includes a fountain roller and a paint tray floor defining a paint chamber. A plurality of color pushers are disposed along an edge of the ink fountain tray to form a paint exit nip together with the fountain roller. The ink slides are adjustable in radial direction to the ductor roller to control the width of the ink outlet gap zones. Flanks of the paint slides are in pairs against each other. At least one of opposite flanks of two ink slide limited gap can be acted upon via a compressed gas line with compressed gas to prevent the paint in the ink chamber from penetrating into the gap.
