Disclosed is a coating composition for producing a thermosensitive recording material or a thermosensitive recording layer each comprising a plurality of submicrometer particles having a monomodal particle size distribution in the range of 290 nm to 750 nm, a coating composition for producing a coating composition or a heat-sensitive recording layer, and a thermosensitive recording material comprising a support substrate and a heat-sensitive recording layer. Further described is a method for producing a heat-sensitive recording material or a heat-sensitive recording layer and a method for producing a recording by means of the heat-sensitive recording material. Also described is a plurality of submicron particles having a monomodal particle size distribution in the range of 290 nm to 750 nm. Further described is the use of a plurality of submicrometer particles, a coating color, a coating composition or a thermosensitive recording layer, among others. in the production of a thermosensitive recording material. In addition, a method for producing a plurality of submicron particles having a monomodal particle size distribution in the range of 290 nm to 750 nm is also described. Also described is the use of a melt of one or more lipophilic organic materials as a working fluid in an electrohydrodynamic printer system.
