The invention relates to a method for detecting an object (10) in an environmental region (9) of a motor vehicle (1) by means of an ultrasound sensor device (3) in which at least three ultrasound sensors (4) proceed from different mounting positions (E1, E2, E3). a distance to an object point (P) of the object (10) is respectively determined on the motor vehicle (1), which differ from one another with respect to an installation height, and based on the respective distances a spatial position of the object point (P) in the surrounding area (9) is determined, wherein based on the distances in each case a ball (K1, K2, K3) determined whose radius corresponds to the distance and the center of the installation position (E1, E2, E3) of the ultrasonic sensor (4), an intersection of all balls (K1, K2, K3) is determined and the spatial position of the object point (P) is determined on the basis of the point of intersection.
