A method for detecting at least one movement pattern (44) of at least one target object (38) detected by a radar system (12) of a vehicle (10), a radar system (12) and a driver assistance system (20) are described. In the method, transmission signals (32a, 32b) are transmitted to a monitoring area (14) of the radar system (12) with at least one transmitter (26a, 26b). With at least one receiver (30), reflected echoes of the transmission signals (32a, 32b) are received as received signals (34a, 34b) at the at least one target object (38). At least one movement pattern (44) of the at least one target object (38) is determined from the received signals (34a, 34b). The at least one movement pattern (44) of the at least one target object (38) is compared with at least one reference movement pattern. If the at least one movement pattern (44) within a predefinable tolerance corresponds to at least one of the reference movement patterns, at least one function of the vehicle (10) assigned to the at least one reference movement pattern is activated. At least two different transmit signals (32a, 32b) are generated on the transmitter side, which are coded against one another in such a way that an at least temporary signal orthogonality is generated between the at least two transmit signals (32a, 32b). The at least two different transmission signals (32a, 32b) are simultaneously transmitted to the same monitoring area (14) of the radar system (12).
