A method for generating setpoint values of duty cycles of phase voltages of multiple phases by means of space vector modulation comprises deriving setpoint values for duty cycles to be set in the multiple phases from positions of phase vector peaks of phase vectors rotating about a center point in an effective spatial direction in a phase space, avoiding entering the phase vector peaks into a stopband region located in the effective spatial direction in the phase space between a duty cycle limit and an extreme value at an edge of a duty cycle region, and shifting the center such that the phase vector peaks increase the stopband in the direction of the duty cycle limit skip the extreme value or from the extreme value to the duty cycle limit. Furthermore, a corresponding device and a corresponding computer program product are disclosed.
