In order to provide a flow control valve for a fluid, in particular for a lubricant, by means of which a fluid, in particular a fluid flow, can be reliably metered and which is simple and inexpensive to produce, it is proposed that the flow control valve comprises: an inlet for supplying the fluid; an outlet for discharging the fluid; a flow control device; a control channel; wherein the connection channel connects the outlet to the control channel and opens into the control channel at a connection channel opening, wherein the inlet is fluidically connectable or connected to the outlet by means of the flow control device, wherein the flow control device comprises a control element which in the control channel between a closed position and wherein, depending on a position of the control element in the control channel, a varying flow cross-section in the region of the connection channel opening is openable, which connects the inlet to the outlet, wherein an edge of the connection channel opening has a shape deviating from a circular shape.
