A method (100) for generating and outputting an audio signal is provided. A first audio signal (42) is received via a microphone (40). A second audio signal (44) is received via a wireless interface (81). The second audio signal (44) corresponds to the portion reproduced via loudspeaker (24) and is received before the corresponding portion of the first audio signal (42). The second audio signal (44) is modified by adaptive filtering and temporal shifting. A modified second audio signal (52) is obtained and the delay difference (43) between the first and the modified second audio signals (52) is compensated. The adaptive filtering simulates an acoustic transmission of the first audio signal (42) to the microphone (40). The modified second audio signal (52) is inverted and the inverted modified second audio signal is output via the earphone or headphones (165).
