A voltage regulator circuit having an internally compensated series effective resistor includes a control circuit for generating an output current having a regulated output voltage based on a reference voltage. The control circuit comprises an amplifier, a resistive element for feeding back an output voltage to an input of the amplifier, and a compensation circuit for coupling the internally compensated effective series resistance into the control circuit. The compensation circuit comprises first current detection means for generating a first detected current proportional to a current through an N-pass device, a second current detection device configured to generate a second detected current proportional to the current through the N-pass device and a bias circuit coupled is for deriving the first detected current and the second detected current to reduce a bias voltage on the resistive element below a threshold voltage.
