The invention relates to a method for applying an absorbing polymer on a substrate, comprising the steps of: - providing a substrate; - applying by spraying a reaction mixture comprising a monomer and a radical-forming photoinitiator of polymerization on the substrate, which reaction mixture is, in substantially polymerized condition, liquid absorbent; and - causing radical formation in the reaction mixture and thereby initiating the polymerization of the monomer under the influence of light, such as ultraviolet light. The invention further relates to a substrate provided with a coating of an absorbing polymer and a use of the substrate.
