The engine has a turbocharger including a compressor (8) to compress an exterior gas, and a recirculation circuit to re-inject a part of exhaust gas in an inlet of a combustion chamber (1). An exhaust gas recirculation valve (14) is controlled by an electronic control case (60) to regulate mass flow of the re-injected gas. The case prevents exceeding of maximum mass flow of the re-injected gas relative to a minimum mass flow of the exterior gas, below which the compressor tends to pump. A temperature sensor (53a), pressure sensors (52, 53b) and a rotation sensor (55) are connected to the case. An independent claim is also included for a method for supercharging an engine with compressed gas.
