METHOD FOR MONITORING A BURIAL DEPTH OF A SUBMARINE POWER CABLE

A computer implemented method determines the burial depth (101) of a submarine power cable (104) under a sea bed (105) from a cable temperature curve (300) of the cable (104) measured along its length over time and from a temperature of seawater (103) in proximity of the cable (104) over time. The method comprising the steps of receiving the cable temperature curve (300) through a cable optical fibre (204); splitting the cable temperature curve (300) into a seawater temperature variation influence (400) and a cable heating influence (500) based on the seawater temperature profile; substracting from the cable heating influence (500) a soil-free cable heating influence (600), thereby obtaining a soil sea bed heating influence (700); and determining the burial depth (101) based on the soil sea bed heating influence (700).
