A lone worker system (100) for performing a safety check is provided. The lone worker system includes a mobile device (110). The mobile device (110) includes a sensor (116) and a memory (113) storing a safety check application (114) thereon and a processor (111). The processor (111) is coupled to the memory (113) and executes the safety check application (114) under a motion mode including an active tracking of a fall motion event by the sensor (116). In response to the fall motion event being detected during the active tracking, the processor (111) operates a count utilizing a timer of the safety check application (114). If the count exceeds a predetermined amount of time, the safety check application (114) enters an emergency mode to execute an emergency alert.
