The invention relates to a method for increasing the efficiency of a photovoltaic system with at least one coolable photovoltaic element and a measuring device supporting the implementation of the method by means of which it is possible to adapt photovoltaic systems to their specific operating conditions, in particular to their operating location, by optimizing the cooling. First, the maximum operating temperature (T sub max /sub) of the uncooled photovoltaic element is determined site-specifically. On this basis, with the aid of an efficiency function, the probable maximum operating temperature and the probable overall efficiency of the cooled photovoltaic element are then determined for various cooling elements that can be contacted on the photovoltaic element. Finally, after the optimal cooling element has been selected, it is mounted on the photovoltaic element. The method, which may be carried out with the aid of the measuring device, is particularly suitable for the cooling optimization of newly installed photovoltaic systems at operating locations with high levels of solar radiation.
