To provide pharmaceutical compositions of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in free acid form with enriched docosapentaenoic acid.SOLUTION: Disclosed herein is a pharmaceutical composition comprising at least about 50% (a/a) of eicosapentaenoic acid in substantially free acid form; at least about 15% (a/a) of docosahexaenoic acid in substantially free acid form; and at least about 1% (a/a) of docosapentaenoic acid in substantially free acid form. Also disclosed is a method for treating severe hypertriglyceridemia comprising: orally administering the pharmaceutical composition to a patient having pretreatment serum or plasma triglyceride levels of ≥500 mg/dL, in an amount and for a duration effective to reduce the serum or plasma triglyceride levels below the levels before treatment.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 28-1
