To provide an apparatus for loading a portafilter of an espresso coffee machine with a dose of ground coffee having a predetermined weight.SOLUTION: The apparatus comprises a plurality of hoppers each containing a different type of coffee beans. The exhaust pipes of the respective hoppers converge into a single collection point associated with a coffee bean weighing device and a coffee bean grinding device that can provide different grinding degrees. The ground coffee, which may have different particle sizes according to the types of coffee that form the dose, flows into a respective cylindrical container of a loading device having a plurality of containers arranged around a central axis of rotation and a radially and axially open compartment, which is designed to allow the passage of the tamper for tamping the dose of ground coffee in the portafilter, when the compartment) is moved by an angular displacement of the loader to alignment with the tamper and with the underlying portafilter.
