To provide a tool change control method for an automatic tool change mechanism, the method allowing the reduction of the time required for changing a tool.SOLUTION: A tool change control method for an automatic tool change mechanism according to the present invention is adapted for an automatic tool change mechanism which comprises a main shaft, nuts, a tool change arm, a first motor, and a second motor, the nuts engaging the main shaft in a fashion of a screwing pair. In this configuration, the tool change arm performs the steps of rotating and engaging a tool, releasing the tool and descending, rotating and changing the tool, ascending and grasping the tool, and rotating and returning to the home position. In a part of the steps, the first motor and the second motor are started synchronously to allow the main shaft to be driven to rotate and to axially move simultaneously, so that the time required for changing a tool can be reduced to thereby increase the efficiency of changing the tool.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 10
