The present invention relates to a method for determining a phase current (ia, ib, ic) of a rotary multi-phase electric device which is fed by a PWM control type inverter. In this case, the injection voltage applied in at least one specific PWM period is determined. Furthermore, the evaluation direction is determined for the phase current vector, and the current measurement distribution is determined for each phase current (ia, ib, ic) according to the evaluation direction. The phase current (ia, ib, ic) is then determined as a function of the predetermined amperometric distribution.
