To allow AE energy caused by an iron oxide raw material to be measured originally by reducing the AE energy caused by a reaction tube.SOLUTION: A measurement method for measuring AE waves calculates AE energy following reduction powdering of an iron oxide raw material. In the measurement method, a reducing gas is supplied to a metal reaction tube for housing an iron oxide raw material and at the same time the reaction tube is heated, the reaction tube is cooled after the heating, and AE waves generated after heating and cooling the reaction tube are measured. In cooling of the reaction tube, the reaction tube is cooled at a cooling speed at which AE energy calculated from the following expression (I) becomes equal to or less than a preset permissible value. In Et=k×a×Vc (I), Et is AE energy [e.u.], k is a coefficient, (a) is an oxidation speed [g/m/sec] of a metal material of a reaction tube corresponding to a heating temperature in heating, and Vc is a cooling speed [°C/min] when the reaction tube is cooled.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
