The thermal start structure for mechanically starting the parts of the fire protection system from a remote location has a starter. The starter includes a base and a movable member. The urging member applies a force to the movable member from the position before activation to the position after activation with respect to the base. The thermal responsive element holds the movable member in its pre-launch position until it reaches a predetermined thermodynamic state and loses structural integrity. The flexible connector includes a hollow flexible outer cable housing. One end of the flexible outer cable housing is steadily connected (preferably fixed) to the base. Flexible cables are slidable within the outer cable housing. One end of the flexible cable is steadily connected (preferably fixed) to the movable member. When the thermal response element loses structural integrity, the flexible cable moves relative to the outer cable housing as the moving member moves.
