To provide techniques for producing β-glucan utilizing a microorganism of the genus Aureobasidium to obtain β-glucan of high purity at low cost with high efficiency.SOLUTION: The invention provides a mutant strain of high β-glucan productivity derived from a parent strain of Aureobasidium pullulans, which exhibits a hightened β-glucan productivity when cultured at 31.5°C. Also provided is a method for manufacturing β-glucan using this strain, characterized in that the β-glucan productivity is high under rather high temperature culture conditions, and when the culture is conducted in equipment such as a large aeration tank, temperature control to an optimum temperature is not required or required in a lesser extent.SELECTED DRAWING: None
