Provided herein is a dual riser fluid catalytic cracking process for producing light olefins from an oxygenate feed (such as a methanol feed) in a conventional FCC unit. In a particular embodiment, the process comprises: a first catalyst comprising a first catalyst at a first riser condition to form a first effluent rich in olefins, light gas oils, gasoline or combinations thereof. Cracking a hydrocarbon feed in a riser, cracking a hydrocarbon oxygenate feed in a second riser that includes a second catalyst at second riser conditions to form a second effluent rich in olefins In a common reactor, recovering the first catalyst and the second catalyst from the first effluent and the second effluent, in a regenerator using heat from the exothermic decomposition of the hydrocarbon oxygenate feed.
