An absorbent article is disclosed. The absorbent article has a core and a chassis. One or more separate coupling zones couple the core to the chassis, and one or more non-coupling zones of the core are not coupled to the chassis, thereby forming a floating core. The core is not elastically coupled to the chassis. The method of making the absorbent article may include selectively coupling the chassis to the core in a separate coupling zone.
