PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tooth number specification device of a single pinion type epicyclic gear and a tooth number specification method thereof in which the tooth number of the epicyclic gear useful for abnormality diagnosis of a gear can be specified in the epicyclic gear whose design specifications are unknown.SOLUTION: A tooth number specification device of a single pinion type epicyclic gear comprises meshing frequency specification means 45 which specifies the predicted frequency in which total value of the maximum peak amplitudes calculated within the ranges of the predicted frequencies that are plurally set among the selected predicted frequencies in the predetermined period of time is k-th (k is a natural number) largest as the meshing frequency of a gear pair whose tooth face speed is k-th largest. The tooth number specification device thereof comprises epicyclic gear tooth number specification means 46 which specifies the tooth number of an epicyclic gear device 15 whose velocity ratio becomes maximum by using a tooth number conditional expression in a predetermined epicyclic gear mechanism on the basis of the specified meshing frequency.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
