5-Halouracil modified microRNA and its use in the treatment of cancer

The present disclosure provides nucleic acid compositions that incorporate one or more harrow-racil molecules. More specifically, the present disclosure demonstrates that the replacement of uracil nucleotides in a microRNA nucleotide sequence with 5-halouracil increases the ability of micro-RNA to inhibit cancer progression and tumorigenesis. . As such, the present disclosure provides various nucleic acid (eg, microRNA) compositions having 5-halouracil molecules incorporated into the nucleic acid sequence and methods of using the same. The present disclosure further provides pharmaceutical compositions (eg, formulations) comprising the modified nucleic acid compositions and methods for treating cancers such as colorectal, pancreatic and lung cancer.
