To provide an oxygen absorption and emission material capable of providing an exhaust gas purification catalyst having excellent oxygen absorption and emission performance even when exposed to a high temperature, and achieving excellent NOx purification performance.SOLUTION: A core shell type oxygen absorption and emission material having a core consisting of a ceria-zirconia-based solid-solution powder having a regular phase of at least one of a pyrochlore phase and a κ phase, and a shell arranged on at least a part of a surface of the core and consisting of alumina-based oxide containing α alumina, in which an intensity ratio between a diffraction line of 2θ=14.5° and a diffraction line of 2θ=29° calculated by an X ray diffraction pattern obtained by an X ray diffraction measurement using CuKα after heating in air at 1100°C for 5 hr. [I(14/29) value] is 2% or more, and an intensity ratio between a diffraction line of 2θ=35.2° and a diffraction line of 2θ=29° [I(35/29) value] is 0.03 to 1.2%.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
