PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source drive unit which can control the light emission amount of a light source with high resolution while suppressing the up-sizing.SOLUTION: A light source drive unit 12 includes a capacitor C connected so as to be able to supply a current to a LD(light source), a transistor Tr1 for switching conduction/non-conduction between the LD and capacitor C, an emission control unit 24 for causing pulse emission from the LD by switching (controlling) the transistor Tr1, and a coil L (energy storage element) capable of storing energy temporarily, and changing energy with the capacitor C.
