This disclosure relates to a smoke detection system (18) for an enclosed area. The smoke detection system comprising a housing (30) having an inlet (20) and an outlet (22). The smoke detection system also having a divider (24) within the housing (30), wherein the housing (30) includes a first compartment (26) to receive air flow from the inlet (20), a turning portion (31) configured to direct flow to a second compartment (28) in communication with the outlet (22), and a sensor (34) that senses smoke provided within the first compartment (26). A method is also disclosed.
