To provide an optical vortex generation method capable of generating a plurality of optical vortexes while suppressing costs.SOLUTION: The optical vortex generation method includes a step S1 to a step S5. In step S1, a plurality of beams Bn are generated. In step S3, a phase difference is given to two or more beams Bn among the plurality of beams Bn. In step S5, a target TA is irradiated with the plurality of beams Bn including the two or more beams Bn to which the phase difference is given. In step S5, the plurality of beams Bn enter the target TA from directions different to each other, and the plurality of beams Bn are interfered with each other. An interference pattern PTD of the plurality of beams Bn includes a plurality of spots P. In step S3, the phase difference is given to the two or more beams Bn so that the plurality of spots P rotate about the plurality of rotational centres RC.
