To provide a design method of an optical system, capable of reducing the cost of manufacture of the optical system in a range where required performance of the optical system is satisfied.SOLUTION: An optical design method including the following steps is performed and a manufacturing cost reduction is performed in a range where required performance is satisfied. (1) a step S203 of designing an optical system including a plurality of optical elements as optimum candidate target. (2) a step S205 of deleting or substituting one or more optical elements from the optimum candidate optical system to designing a new optical system. (3) a step S206 of adjusting optical system configuration parameters so that characteristics of the new optical system are optimum for repeated deformations, improving an optimization evaluation index to thereby obtain a temporarily optimum optical system. (4) a step of changing deletion or substitution condition of the optical element of the (2) for the optimum candidate optical system of the (1), to the conditions of the satisfy the optimization evaluation index of the (3).
