In some embodiments, an online social networking system that users of the system can selectively share personal data with other users, known as members, of the system in order to make sober connections to form a community of sober-minded members, events, and groups. The connections, groups, and events are all supportive of sober social interaction. In some embodiments, the connections allow other members to further connect with additional members and groups based on user and member privacy settings. In some embodiments, the online social networking system allows the user and members to participate in sober comments, sober events, sober groups and compatible sober resources. In some embodiments, the online social networking system provides a sober social network resource to recovering addicts and non-addicts alike.
