The present invention is directed to methods of treating hepatorenal syndrome by administration of a therapeutically effective amount of a thromboxane A₂ receptor antagonist to a patient in need thereof. The present invention is also directed to methods of treating hepatic encephalopathy and cerebral edema by administration of a therapeutically effective amount of a thromboxane A₂ receptor antagonist to a patient in need thereof.
