The present invention relates to a soil resistivity detection system (18) for an agricultural implement (10) which includes a row unit (16) having row unit components. The components of the row unit include a waste management system (34) configured to condition the soil (32) at the leading edge of the row unit (16), an opening system (40) configured to form a groove (48) on the ground (32), a closing assembly (51) configured to close the groove (48) and a compactor wheel assembly (54) configured to compact the soil (32). The soil resistivity detection system (18) also includes a control assembly (71) configured to emit an electric current to a first pair of components of the row unit, to receive voltages from a second pair of components of the row unit, determine a voltage differential based on the voltages and determine a soil resistivity based on the voltage differential.
