precision seeder heads and seeder components that include precision seeder heads. according to some modalities, a precision sowing head (500, 505) includes a seed row tube (560) that has an internal circumference that is sized to accommodate a seed (512, 514, 5) in any vertical location, a first seed holder (530, 540) that selectively locks the seed row tube (560) when located in a standard position and selectively unlocks the seed row tube (560) when located in the release position, and an optical sensor (550) positioned in a vertical position below the first seed support (530, 540), in which the optical sensor (550) is adapted to detect seeds (512, 516) dispensed from the seed row tube seed (560).
