there is a description of a method and computer program and associated apparatus to characterize the changes within a volume in a subsurface between a first period and a second period. the method comprises obtaining the first seismic data corresponding to the first time and processing this data to obtain a seismic image of the volume in the subsurface. this processing is reverted to the relevant portions of the seismic image to obtain the relevant portions of the first seismic data. changes in the volume of the subsurface volume between the first and second times are characterized by the estimate of changes between the second seismic data corresponding to the second time and the relevant portions of the first seismic data.
