gravity drop safety support. a secure blood collection device that includes a support housing adapted to hold a needle cannula with a puncture tip extending from its front end and to receive a sample collection tube through its rear end . a retainer forces the support housing to hold the needle in a first position with the needle puncture tip extending from the front end of the support housing. the retainer is adapted for activation such as to release the needle from that first position, thereby allowing the needle to move based on the force of gravity and the weight of the needle to a second position in which the puncture tip of the needle cannula is contained within the inner chamber of the support housing. as such, the perpendicular placement of the support housing by activating the retainer will allow the needle to fall into the support housing, thereby containing the needle cannula in it, as an independent set.
